Ravi Shankar

I discovered the music of Ravi Shankar in Pather Panchali, the great movie of Satyajit Ray. I fell in love with the score from the first sounds. The music of Teiji Ito came into my mind: the same sense of immediacy. However, Ravi Shankar is different: a great composer and a great performer, with a prodigious activity during the years, in India, France, California, he is the leading figure in Hindustani music. Shankar made known through his work all kind of traditional Indian instruments (tabla or sarod for instance). His favorite is the sitar: Shankar made it famous in the musical world at large (suffice to mention the compositions for sitar and violin performed by Ravi Shankar and Yehudi Menuhin).
