Kaneto Shindô - Tree Without Leaves

Raku-yo-ju (Tree Without Leves), made by Kaneto Shindô in 1986: a boy has a mother who is dedicated to him in every way, and a very stern father; the mother dies when the boy is 11; the thing is framed as the book the boy writes, now old and missing key parts of his soul; lots of snow, lots of lonely stares contrasting with the wide eyes of the boy; the film works, as a gentle knife that wounds (tedg).
