Vodka & Coffee

Here is the story (according to Michael Brooke): Valto and Reino take to the road in search of coffee and vodka. Klaudia and Tatiana are interested in the two men, despite the language barrier. What response to get from men staring at vodka bottles?

A Jarmusch-like movie that's not made by Jarmusch. It looks also like a Czech movie, only it's not Czech. Klaudia is a garrulous Russian and Tatiana is an Estonian. The movie is not Estonian, Russian neither.

Valto and Reino are lugubrious Finns, and the director is Aki Kaurismäki (a guy who started as a postman, went on as a dish washer, then switched to film critic to eventually land as a great filmmaker).

So the movie is Finnish and it has a pretty complicated Finnish name, Pidä huivista kiinni, Tatjana.

  • Sounds interesting. I like offbeat films. Leningrad Cowboys Go America directed by Aki Kaurismäki was another good Finnish movie.
