Calderón de la Barca (full name: Pedro Calderón de la Barca y Barreda González de Henao Ruiz de Blasco y Riaño, ni más ni menos) was one of the reasons I started to learn Spanish. A great playwright of the Siglo de Oro (when French were taking pride in imitating the Spaniards - as Ioan Massoff superbly put it somewhere in his history of Bucharest National Theatre), and among my childhood memories are posters of Bucharest theaters with some of his plays (El alcalde de Zalamea, Casa con dos puertas, and not only). They kept the stage for a good number of years.
