Catholicism and Evolution

Intelligent Design versus Evolution, a divide (not the only one) in today's American Church - where are the Catholics located? The Vatican was moving towards some kind of acceptance of the Evolutionist theory - a distinction was made between the realms of belief and science, between who and how - who is the ultimate creator and how all these happened. However, recently Vatican considered necessary to stress out some distances.
