Wonkette: Visit Virginia Before It's Too Late

Wonkette makes fun, as always:

Now that Bob McDonnell is governor of Virginia, who knows what’s in store for blacks and women?!?! So, before the new leadership goes and names more streets after its Civil War heroes, you should visit it on a day trip. It’s just lovely in the fall, what with the leaves and all.

Then it gives some suggestions what to visit:

Skyline Drive: Fact: When leaves are orange and red they are notoriously pretty — particularly on Skyline Drive. It’s 105 miles of beauty along the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Shenandoah National Park, and it’s probably the only stretch where you’ll enjoy driving as if you were stuck in Beltway traffic.

I was once there with my friend Dev: he is a great driver, so we made the whole skyline one Friday afternoon!

Alexandria: The best things about Alexandria are its Metro accessibility and its Crate and Barrel Outlet. The town has plenty of cute antique shops and superb restaurants, as well as a gorgeous harbor where you can spend the afternoon people-watching.

It's one of the greatest places; I was many, many times there, by metro, or taking the trail on the border of Potomac.

Richmond: Ah, Richmond, the Capital of the Confederacy. What a perfect time to visit this once thriving slave palace. Carytown is a one-mile stretch of great restaurants, shops, and beautifully renovated historic buildings.

I was never there, that's it :)

Charlottesville: The home of the University of Virginia, Charlottesville is a charming little town about two hours from DC. You can pick apples at the Carter Mountain Orchard, hike and see beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains at Humpback Rocks, visit about a thousand wineries — our personal favorite being Veritas — and eat great food at cute family restaurants like Martha’s Table.

I was there only once, with my friend Dev; it was evening and we were running late, so we only passed the town.

Wegmans: Yes, going to this grocery store qualifies as an amazing reason to visit Virginia. It’s like Whole Foods on steroids. You will NOT be disappointed.
