Café Transit
Café Transit (Border Café), an Iranian movie made by Kambuzia Partovi in 2005. It was nominated for an Oscar in 2007, representing Iranian cinematography for the best foreign language film.
It is the story of a widow in struggle with the old rules imposed by tradition: she reopens the café that had been run by her late husband - a place near the Turkish border that brings together long-haul truckers and all kind of other travelers. Among them, the kindly Greek trucker Zakariyo opens the possibility of a new family.
The movie was screened last Sunday at Freer Gallery in DC. I will definitely miss such screenings.
