It takes a crisis to make a continent, says
Gabor Steingart, the chief-editor of
Handelsblatt. The continent is Europe and the crisis is in Greece. Is Mr. Steingart an optimistic? We could say so, nevertheless he has a point. All steps towards European concert came after periods of crisis. It was about wars before, it's about economy today. I think it depends not only on the facts as seen in Brussels (and Berlin); also on the facts on the ground in Greece. It could be the birthday of a real European Union; or the end of it.
But you should read
Gabor Steingart's op-ed in today's
NY Times.
