Gustave le Gray started as a a painter to turn later to photography. By the end of the 1850's he would leave France to set to Egypt.

I saw some of his works at the exhibition opened these days at the Washington Gallery of Art. He made these photographies of trees and pathways within the forest of Fontainebleau at the middle of 19th century. As for his Pont du Carousel, it is not in the exhibition: it belongs to the permanent collection of the gallery.
