Carmen Herrera

Carmen Herrera - Rondo (Blue and Yellow), 1965
paint on canvas

Balancing reason and harmony, Carmen Herrera raises her paintings to a zenith of asceticism and precision (Carolina Ponce de León).

I passed several times at the third floor of Hirshhorn in front of this painting. It always attracts me like a magnet. And it's with joy that I am looking at this Rondo in Blue and Yellow. Geometrical restraint in a crystalline purity.

The artist was born in Havana, in 1915. She has been living for many decades in New York, and spent long periods in Paris.
