Uga means Year (or Age), and Adi means First (or Beginning): tomorrow my friends from India celebrate Ugadi, the Hindu New Year. They will eat a special dish that consists of a mixture of six tastes (Neem Buds/Flowers for its bitterness, Jaggery and ripe banana pieces for sweetness, Green Chilli/Pepper for its hot taste, Salt for saltiness, Tamarind Juice for its sourness, Unripened Mango for its tang): life is a mixture of different experiences - sadness, happiness, anger, fear, disgust, surprise - which should be accepted together. As most of my Indian friends speak Kannada, I will tell you how his special dish is called in their language: ಬೇವು-ಬೆಲ್ಲ (Beevu Bella).
I wish them all Happy Ugadi!
