Olga Preobrazhenskaya



Olga Preobrazhenskaya was an important figure of the Russian and Soviet film history, and one of the first female film directors in the world. Born in Moscow in 1881 (or 1884, according to some sources), she followed theatrical studies and by 1913 started a career in movies, firstly as an actress, and from 1916 also as a director (beginning with 1924. Her activity as a film director spanned between 1916 and 1941, and her flagship movie is considered the silent Бабы рязанские (Peasant Women from Ryazan, Le village du péché) from 1927.

Olga Preobrazhenskaya passed away in 1971 in Moscow.
