Death in Philadelphia
The Drexel Shaft passed away on November 15. You'll ask me who he was. Its life was intimately intricate within the campus of Drexel University. Here's what I found in Wikipedia:
The Flame of Knowledge, a fountain once located in the main quad (now relocated to the area in front of North Hall), used to be known as the Drexel Shaft in the late 70s and early 80s, however the name outgrew the landmark. The Drexel Shaft now refers to the Penn Coach Yard chimney, the large smoke stack structure which was located east of 32nd street. Unresponsive treatment by the administration has been termed the Drexel Shaft by students.
This video is created by Kevin Martin. Here's what he says about it:
The 11/15/09 early morning implosion of the Amtrak Steam Plant near 30th Street Station in Philadelphia, more colloquially known as The Drexel Shaft. A symbolic victory for the students of Drexel University and their fight against bureaucracy.
Here's more info from Mr. Martin:
Musical background - Hide And Seek by Imogen Heap
The footage was shot on a Sony PMW-EX1 at 720p and 60 frames per second overcranked. Mr. Martin did a few in-camera filters, but he also took a lot of artistic liberty with the color correction.
