The Hurt Locker on youTube

The rush of battle is often a potent and lethal addiction, for war is a drug

The quote is from Chris Hedges, who knows what he says: he spent two decades as a reporter covering wars in Latin America, Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

It is the quote that opens The Hurt Locker, but this movie also calls in my mind a formidable book about the wars in the Balkans and Chechnya, My War Gone By, I Miss It So.

IMHO The Hurt Locker should take the Oscar this year.

  • I must be reading the wrong newspapers because I had no clue that Kathryn Bigelow, the director of 'Hurt Locker' is the ex-wife of James Cameron. No I know, as the local edition of Time Out titled its Oscar preview with the title 'The War of the Exes'. Anyway, thanks for the links, I plan to see the film in the next few days.

  • It's a great movie. I didn't know that the two main contenders for Oscar this year had been married.
