September 8, Anniversary of NY Re-Christening
September 8, 1664: English soldiers took control of the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam on Manhattan. The place was re-christened: New York. The Dutch spirit of religious tolerance and free enterprise was kept, and has remained forever the unique character of this city.
