A splendid painting with a crazy message (crazy in the best sense of the word): it offers for the legend told by Heine an outcome (as weird as it can be) - some monks come at the end of the day to exorcise the young maiden , to chase any demons away, and probably reopen the rapid of Rhine for navigation.

Johann Köler was an Estonian artist, a promoter of the Estonian national awakening from the second half of 19th century.
