Born in Paris, studied the movie art in Moscow (student of Dovjenko and Yutkevich, colleague with Parajanov), made some superb movies in Romania. His radical esthetic and his uncompromising character made him a pariah. Eventually Săucan emigrated to Israel where he dedicated himself mostly to writing. His Meandre (Meanders) is a masterpiece.
