Rubén Darío
I just came upon a text by him, telling his love for Paris (teatro divertido y terrible). I'll come a bit later to it, for those impatient here is the link (El Pájaro Azul).
He was el príncipe de las letras castellanas, the prince of Castillian letters, el padre del modernismo, the father of Spanish-American modernism, el poeta de identidad atemporal, the poet of atemporal identity.
And yes, he loved Paris, and he loved Verlaine. Here are just two stanzas, I'll leave them in Spanish, their sonority is too special to be spoiled:
Shakespeare va por la floresta,
Heine hace un “lied” de la tarde…
Hugo acompasa la Fiesta
“Chez Thérèse”. Verlaine arde

(from Dream)
Houssaye supera al viejo Anacreonte,
En París reinan el Amor y el Genio:
Ha perdido su imperio el dios bifronte.
(from Divagación)
