American Art and Portraiture
Walt Whitman was praising it as the noblest of Washington buildings and its is indeed a fine example of Greek Revival architecture. The building, with a great courtyard in the middle, is hosting two national institutions, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery: the American history through portraits, photographs, artworks.
