GOP Against the 14th Amendment?

Senator Lindsey Graham and his GOP fellows propose now that citizenship should not be conferred to those born in US if their parents are illegal immigrants. They talk about the threat of anchor babies. This is a suicidal strategy for Republicans: the American society is continually evolving towards a more diversified ethnic composition in which the Latino component becomes more and more important. If GOP intends to present itself as the white folks party, the political gains can be only of very short term. That's something that sentient Republicans (and I can mention here George W. Bush, John McCain and Karl Rove) have well understood. Is Senator Graham the prisoner of his electoral base?
