Conlon Nancarrow composed study # 2a by 1950. It is (like study # 1) jazz on the player piano, slow blues with two bass parts in the velocity ratio of 3:5 (Jürgen Hocker). It was followed by didactic variations (studies #2b, 2c, 2d, and then 2B).
